Hi everyone,
Well, we have officially started out spring with a bang... Don left for South Carolina last Sunday, the 5th. We miss him terribly but all of us have been staying in pretty good spirits and just praising God that he is bored in South Carolina, using up time there, as opposed to in Iraq. They can keep in bored in South Carolina for as long as they want, as far as I am concerned. But he is going a little stir crazy and definitely missing us and wishing he was here instead, of course. Shelby is doing well but definitely voices her feelings and thoughts about him being gone, on a daily basis. Which is really a good thing and I am glad that she is able to express herself in such a big way. It's just hard to hear sometimes... She even said she wishes I was the one who left instead... Which I know she doesn't really mean that, but is was sad. She is just in love with her Daddy, and I can't blame her for that... After all, I am too. We sure wish he was here. Easter was a good one, thought it would have been more fun with Don here. We went on an egg hunt/community picnic on Saturday. It was hosted by the civic association in Sue's neighborhood and was a lot of fun. There was a man playing the accordion and he played "Here comes Peter Cottontail" and other fun kid songs... along with some German songs. I really enjoyed that... it made it seem like a picnic from the old days.... pretty cool. Shelby had a lot of fun. More people brought their dogs to the picnic than children-lol. So that is what we did on Saturday... Then my brother-in-law, Marc, and his girlfriend Becky came in to town. So Becky went with Sue and I to take photos of Shelby in the bluebonnets by the bayou. Then we went out to eat at Jax Grill and listened to Zydeco music, although the music was starting right as we left. Shelby fell asleep before we got there and slept all the way home and through the entire night! So that left plenty of time for the Easter bunny to visit and get the eggs and basket ready for the morning. I also made a homemade French silk pie and a zucchini casserole Saturday night... so I could bring it to Easter lunch at Sue's on Sunday. Sunday morning I got up before Shelby and hurried to put eggs all over the living room and put the basket out... and had time to shower and get dressed before she ever woke up. It went perfectly. Then I got her bathed and dressed for church. Marc woke up and took pictures of Shelby hunting eggs. It was storming in the morning so we could really do outside egg hunting. But it all went really well and Shelby was so excited that the bunny came to her house. Marc and Becky finished up the rest of my cooking for me and took the pie and casserole over to Sue's house while Shelby and I went to church. It turned into a torrential downpour right as I was leaving church so Shelby and I were almost floating out way to Sue's house... But we made it without completely getting drenched. Good thing I didn't blowdry my hair that morning though. All of the food turned out wonderfully and we had great company. Becky's parents were in town from San Antonio and originally were playing in a tennis tournament, which got rained out... so they got to join us for Easter, which was a nice surprise. Overall, it was a really nice day and the sun came out just in time for dessert! Don called right after everyone left and it was the perfect way to wrap up the day. I have been blessed to get to talk to him every day so far. So, 6 egg hunts later, Shelby raked in the candy and goodies and we were ready to head home. That was our Easter...
